Leadership in Crisis - Simple Things Can be Overlooked: How Can You Help?

The world has been turned upside down within weeks.  Leaders, employees and families are experiencing life change that has never been seen or experienced, ever. 

Some leaders are very good at crisis management, some are overburdened, some experience polarization or denial and some go into total overdrive.  Because of this, it can be easy to overlook even the simple things that may be critical.  Even if leaders are very good with crisis management, they may not be aware and may surprisingly appreciate bringing even simple things to their attention.

How can you help?  Now more than ever, we need strong team players to be open and to share ideas including those from all levels of the organization and all generations to create the best possible outcomes.  This week in a webinar by Patrick Lencioni and The Table Group, he provided several points pertaining to this article and in an interview this week between LinkedIn and Mark Cuban, Mark indicated that he is reading everything he can get his hands on to be well informed. Unfortunately, not everyone that is in crisis management is or can be fully informed.  They need help. 

If you are afraid to approach a subject or think your thoughts and ideas may be redundant, then consider providing a simple introduction such as, “I don’t know if this has been part of your planning or discussions, but I feel that if I don’t speak up and it goes unnoticed something critical could be overlooked.” Or, “you have probably already thought of this, but I feel if I don’t speak up, it would be neglectful of me and we may all be sorry later.”
